The Village Bank announced Newton’s Michael Monticelli as the winner of its $10,000 Great Giveaway on Thursday. Monticelli was presented with a $5,000 check by President and CEO Joseph De Vito at the Bank’s corporate headquarters in Upper Falls. Monticelli also chose to donate $5,000 to Cradles to Crayons.

“I’m surprised and very grateful to the Bank,” said Monticelli, a Village Bank customer for more than a decade who was automatically entered into the giveaway by using his debit card 10 times per month during the summer. “I’m glad to be able to help a charity that does so much for kids.”

Cradles to Crayons is a nonprofit organization that provides clothing and other supplies to children affected by poverty. Executive Director Aubrey Henderson was on hand to accept the donation.

“The Village Bank is a huge supporter of Cradles to Crayons,” Henderson said. “To know its customers are just as supportive means so much to us. We are thankful to Mr. Monticelli and the Bank for helping to spread the word about our organization.”

Also on hand for the presentation were Village Bank Senior Vice Presidents Amy Werner and John Karacalidis, as well as Vice President of Community Relations Susan Paley. The Great Giveaway ran from July 1 through September and produced more than 10,500 entries.

“The Giveaway was a fantastic combination of the Bank’s commitments to our customers and our community,” De Vito said. “We are so happy for Mr. Monticelli and our wonderful friends at Cradles to Crayons.”
